Shannon Mullett-Bowlsby (Shibaguyz Designz) brings us this updated and playful take on hats.  In this 7-pattern pamphlet-style book, Shannon ditches the conventional for the hipster, proving that crochet is not just for grannies.  Each pattern plays with modern hat styles, texture, and color to provide hats that aren't just visually pleasing, but interesting to create.  Shannon has really managed to update the classic accessory, while offering something for everyone.

All of the hats are worked in medium weight yarn - making these patterns easily accessible to anyone wishing to crochet something special.  Leisure Arts takes great care to provide an easy-to-read format with well-written and placed stitch guides for each pattern.  Not sure how to create the Front Post Treble Crochet?  Don't worry, it's explained in the very pattern you are working from.  The font is a nice clean, large type which is easy on the eyes when following the pattern.  Each pattern is complete with large, head-on photos of each project, oftentimes shown on both male and female models.  As always, General Instructions and Yarn Information can be located at the conclusion of the book.

I enjoyed thumbing through this book.  I found the patterns refreshing and up to date.  Already my DS has decided that I should crochet him the Boyfriend Beanie.  I think I'll hand him the hook and let him have a go at it!  What I most appreciated about the book was the Stitch Guide inserts for each pattern.  As a newbie crocheter, having the Stitch Guides present along with each pattern being rated as an "Easy" skill level, gives me the confidence to hook one of these cuties.  Seasoned crocheters will not be bored with these designs, but will be able to whip them up fairly easily!
