On the Hook: Baby Cardigan

This week I started a new crochet project, Baby Cardigan, by Linda Permann.  I'm taking Linda's class: Crochet: Beyond Rectangles on Craftsy.  Since I'm a self taught crocheter, I thought taking some kind of crochet class may help me tremendously.  And in Linda's class, we are crocheting a baby cardi to learn simple garment construction.  So pictured here I have the back piece completed and 1 sleeve (unseamed).  I'm crocheting this sweater in Lion Brand LB Collection Cotton Bamboo in Cherry Blossom Colorway.  I love working with this yarn!  It's very smooth and has a subtle sheen that makes the cardi look very cute!  I have some green yarn in my stash somewhere that will end up being the contrasting color on this cardi.  Of course, I don't have any newborns in my life, but I have a garment stand that I plan on putting this cardigan on in my craft space.  The garment stand is just the right size for doll or newborn clothes and a great way to show off my first crocheted cardigan!

If you want to learn how to crochet, you can take Vickie Howell's Crochet Lab: Basic Techniques & Patterns class to learn the basics or Linda Permann's Crochet: Beyond Rectangles class to learn how to take your work beyond dishcloths and scarves, both available on Craftsy!

  1. I love to crochet, I am a self-taught one also and I love making all kinds of things. I have a great pattern for a baby bunting that uses buttons instead of a zipper, hate to sew. Very easy, using a shell pattern. The baby cardigan that I had on needles is now being sewn and then the buttonband has to be knit on. Will post on Twitter when finished!! I will have to get this pattern, I have just been asked to make a baby outfit for a friend, they buy the yarn and I make it, and this might fit the bill.
