Review: New Books Available from Sellers Publishing

Recently, Sellers Publishing contacted me about reviewing some of the new books in their lineup.  Of course I jumped at the chance!  Here are the two books they sent me for review.
Title: Welcoming Home Baby the Handcrafted Way
Author: Tricia Drake
Publisher: Sellers Publishing
ISBN: 978-1-4162-0627-9
Approximate Retail Price: $18.95 (USD)
Craft: Knitting (Baby)

In her cute and cuddly book, Tricia Drake, turns conventional baby knitting on it's head by creating wee knits with big yarns.  Being a busy mother herself, she wanted to create handknits for her children without devoting weeks to each project.  When she decided to marry the instant gratification of big yarn knits with the notion of designing for babies, she produced patterns that are not only adorable and cuddly with loads of luscious texture, but also fun and manageable for the busy knitter-mom on the go.  The patterns range from beginner to advanced, so there is literally something for every skill level.  Drake takes care to not only describe her pattern, but list the skills required to knit the pattern, the size, gauge, pattern notes, along with the usual materials and glossary of definitions.  She takes all of the guess work out of it so that a busy mom can flip through and find a pattern applicable to her skill level fast and with ease. - And that's really the theme of the entire book: quick and cute knits for moms with l'il ones.  Many of these projects can be popped right into your purse and taken with you wherever you and baby roam.

Sections in the book include: Tips From Trickyknits, Hats, Wraps & Blankets, Cocoons & Pods, and a Resource Directory.

I found this book to be colorful and fun with amazing photography.  I would have never thought to create such chunky knits for babies - but Drake proves it can be done and it can look adorable!  If you have a tiny tot or just like to hand knit gifts for the babies in your life, pick up a copy of this book.  You'll be whipping up projects before you know it!

Title: KnitWit 20 Fun Projects for Beginners and Seasoned Knitters
Author: Katie Boyette
Publisher: Sellers Publishing
ISBN: 978-1-4162-0608-8
Approximate Retail Price: $18.95 (USD)
Craft: Knitting (Toys)

In her book of knitted amigurumi, Katie Boyette redefines knitted toys.  You won't find cute and cuddly teddy bears in this book.  BUT, you will find an alligator with a girl's legs hanging out of it's mouth as well as a knitted ninja.  Boyette creates fun and creative patterns for the spunky toy knitter.  Most of her patterns are knit in the round to reduce seaming and produce quick knits.  Defying convention, Boyette offers up patterns of loveable monster toys and animals as well as some silly characters along the way.  And what really gives pop to her patterns are the embellishments she adds to each toy.  Her book is playful and eccentric and offers the knitter a chance to have fun and inject some of her/his own creativity into each toy.  Boyette has organized her book so that the easiest patterns are in the front and the more advanced in the back of the book.  But don't let the advanced patterns scare you off.  Boyette includes step by step color photos of the finishing process.

Be sure to nab a copy of KnitWit and start knitting your own loveable monsters!

Disclosure: Sellers Publishing provided KnitPurlGurl with a review copy of both KnitWit and Welcoming Home Baby the Handcrafted Way free for review.  KnitPurlGurl was not compensated for her review.  The opinions expressed in the above review are those of the blog author's and do not necessarily reflect those of Sellers Publishing, Katie Boyette, or Tricia Drake.
