Oh the weather outside is frightful...

... but the yarn is so delightful! Sitting here watching the beautiful snow falling; sipping hot cocoa; and knitting. What could be more perfect? (Well, maybe knitting on a beach somewhere..) Days like today make me feel all creative and optimistic about my knitting. I almost feel like I could knit something other than a rectangle! Hee-Hee. Okay... let's not get too crazy.

I just got the new copy of KnitSimple. I love the simple shawl pattern listed to help practice increases and decreases. After I complete something, I'll probably move onto that. I also like the ribbon shrug for little girls as well as the top down tunic. So many patterns, so little time.
I think I would like to make this tunic in bright summer colors to match my bathing suit. Wouldn't it be great for a breezy evening at the beach? I've never knit a sweater before, so this may still be out of my reach. I'm keeping it in que. :)

All hail the Yarn Harlot and other news

I am absolutely amazed by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee! I watched a video of her using her Irish Cottage Knitting Method and fell in love with this method! Now if I can slow her down even more through the virtues of video editing, I will master this technique! I just reserved some of her books at the library (sorry for not buying them Stephanie, I'm a poor knitter). I think she's fabulous. If you haven't checked out her blog, Yarn Harlot, you absolutely must do so!

In other news.. I visited Studio Knit in Medina, OH over the weekend and would like to say that I could so live there! Since my LYS is closing, I had to seek out another yarn home. I think I may take some classes there to expand my knitting... They have an intarsia class and a knitting techniques class that I am interested in. I'd also like to take a sock class. Heck, who am I kidding? If I could I would take every class that was offered. What knitter wouldn't?

Still trying to figure out how to weave in the ends on the purl shawl I am knitting. So far, I haven't found something that will work. So for now, this project is on hold. (It's getting pretty crowded on my UFOs shelf.)

Home with the littlest munchkin today and trying to decide to knit or clean the house. The house looks like it has been abandoned and I feel guilty for not attending to it. But on the other hand, I haven't gotten to knit in over a week now and I'm feeling anxious. I read a quote once,

The only place where housework comes before needlework is in the dictionary. ~Mary Kurtz

Further proof that I am an ADD knitter..

Against the better judgement of most knitters, I have begun a new project... In my defense, I needed to start one for my MIL's b-day. I am knitting up the purl shawl from Tangle Online. It's really very cute. Although, I am not using the Fiesta ribbon tape yarn. I'm using Lion's Brand Wool Ease in Red. I think the chunky, warm Wool-Ease will make for a great shawl to cuddle with. I hope to complete it and give it to my MIL with a good book. I think a cozy shawl and a good book to curl up with sound terrific. Maybe I'll add some tea as well! I'll include pics of my progress.

There's No Day Like a Snow Day!

Well, it's snowing here in beautiful NE Ohio... Since I teach, I get to enjoy snow days just like the kiddos! I LOVE snow days! The kids and I have a day of knitting (for me), movies, jammies, and hot cocoa! I plan to make a fire in the fireplace, rent some kid friendly flicks, pull out my much neglected knitting, and curl up on the couch. 2 kiddos, 1 mommy, and 1 puggle on a couch under an afghan should be cuddly warm. As long as no one snags mommy's yarn, I'l be a happy camper. (There was talk of us heading outside to play in the snow, but I think the couch/kids/yarn idea is much better! Perhaps we'll venture out if it warms up a bit.)

Did I mention how much I LOVE snow days?

Lovin' the Ravelry

Okay.. I've been a member of ravelry.com for a couple of weeks now and am now just discovering the BEAUTY of ravelry. I LOVE filtering the searches and finding new patterns to add to my queue. (This is NOT helping my ADD approach to knitting, however.)
I'm trying to spread my wings and learn a few more techniques. I need to work on cabling, knitting in the round, sweaters, and socks! I VOW to try each of these by summer vacation! This way I can work on all of my UFOs over summer vacation. (I long for the days when I take the kiddos to the park to play while I knit, knit, knit away..)
I've promised myself that I will spend at least 30 minutes EVERY day knitting. My knitting has really suffered due to my complete lack of time. If I can devote more time to my knitting, I think I'll get better in a hurry. Not to mention, I'll have so much fun!

BTW... My 3 yo sat down with knitting needles and yarn and tried to "knit" today! I think I have created another knitting addict (monster)! ;P

Flu and other Bothers

Okay, I've had one hell of a week. School was stressful all week. My son didn't want to go to his school. Then, we had a snow day on Friday. (More work for me to figure out how to make up with my students..) To top it off, I have some kind of flu bug and I feel crummy. The only positives this week have been my 2008 New Year's Swap package coming in the mail and being laid up in bed with the flu (more knitting time for me).

Eccie got me some really nice yarns: Rowan Tapestry, Pattons Classic Wool Merino, and Caron Simply Soft Shadows. She also included some really cute stitch markers, incense, and some Bath and Body Works brown sugar and fig lotion!!

This was my first swap and I hope my swap partner liked everything I got her. It is so hard to know what to put in a swap package. After this swap, I think I'll have a better idea.

In other news.. no one in my family understands why I knit. Apparently they think it is an eccentric hobby for old ladies. The fact that I knit is a novelty to them. DH is purely annoyed by my knitting. I think he may be a bit jealous that I spend time on something that doesn't involve him. Oh well. As Pooh would say.. Oh bother.
