So I've learned that yapping while knitting is maybe not the best idea when you are in a pattern. Case in point: I am knitting a simple k9, p9 pattern for my Baby Blocks blanket. At my knitting group, I was yap, yap, yapping away and realized that I had knit at least 6 rows of not so perfect, k9, p9. ARGH! I have to frog at least 6 rows, maybe more. (Currently my blanket has some really big and some really small blocks.) EEKS! I guess when I'm at group, I should knit more and talk less. Who knew?

Toddler Shrug

I was watching Knitty Gritty and got inspired by a show they had on wraps and shrugs. I decided that rectangles seem to be my thing, so why not knit up a simple shrug for my daughter, Maddie? I got some Moda Dea Prima yarn in Burgandy and started knitting up a rectangle. I keep wrapping it around her to get the right size and I'm inches away from being finished with the knitted part. Then all I have to do is seam it up.

Finished 1 of 2 scarves in the works

I knit up a whimsical garter stitch scarf with fringe using a thick/thin wool & acrylic blend yarn for my daughter, Maddie. It matches her brightly colored magenta coat. The other scarf I am knitting for her, the Palidrome Scarf, matches her soft pink and sheepskin coat. Scarves knit up so easily! This was from a discontinued yarn sold at JoAnn's. I think I paid $0.99 for the skein. One skein is all it took! It's cute and very appropriate for a 3 year old!

Bought Some Yarn On Sale!!

My LYS is going out of business. :( But, their misfortune is my fortune. I got several balls of Trendsetter's Dune for a mere $5 a ball! I am making a sexy little asymmetrical, elongated scarf out of it. Here's the pattern I am using (my own creation):

KPG's Vertically Asymmetrical, Sexy Little Elongated Stitch Scarf

Skill Level: VERY Beginner
Yarn: Trendsetter's Yarn Dune (In any color), 1 ball
Needles: Size 15 Single Points

Cast on 9 stitches (I prefer long tail cast-on, but you can use whatever you'd like.)
Rows 1-6: Garter st
Row 7: Make elongated stitches by wrapping the yarn 3 times. (YO 3, k)
Row 8: Knit the stitches and drop the yo stitches (you should be back down to 9 stitches after this row)
Rows 9 - 13: Garter St

Repeat sequence until scarf is at desired length.

To make this asymmetrical (vertically), I sometimes garter st 4 or 5 rows instead of 6 in between the yo rows. I stagger this. It gives the scarf a whimsical and interesting look. But if you prefer a standard look, just follow rows 1-13 over and over again until you've reached the desired length.
You can add fringe or pick up stitches to add an interesting border.

On The Needles (OTN)

Right now I have several items I am working on (The ADD crafter in me):

1.) Baby Blocks baby afghan for my new nephew, Dominic. (75% complete)
2.) Palidrome Scarf for my daughter, Madeline (30% complete)
3.) Cabled Poncho for myself (Casting on)
4.) Bobble Poncho for my sister from the Vogue knitting Ponchos On The Go Book, 2005(Casting on)

I can't wait to work on the cabled poncho and the Bobble Poncho. However, I am forcing, yes forcing myself to actually finish some projects and finish up the baby blanket before my nephew has his own children. ;P

I will post pics as I go and of course, pics of my finished projects.

Welcome to my blog! I am an entry-level knitter hoping to expand my horizons in the world of knitting! Although I learned to knit 2 years ago, I haven't been able to knit consistently and therefore am still at a beginner level. I am starting this blog as a way of motivating myself to knit more.

That said, I am ADDICTED to knitting. I just haven't the time to knit. My New Year's resolution is to knit 30 minutes EACH day. I hope this blog will grow along with my knitting.
